What's for Dinner?

I like to cook, but thinking of what to do for the lunch/dinner drives me crazy. Every day have to think of what veggie and curry to make. My family they like only conventional Indian cooking, both my husband and daughter would have sambhar or parupu everyday they never think out of the box. But it does not sound very interesting to make sambhar everyday. So everyday I have to rack my brain to make a dish. I like to try new recipes, but when I do some new stuff and my family does not like it, they just refuse to even taste it and just have curd rice, which upsets me so much. So nowadays I try to make very conventional cooking only, very rarely I try out stuff. I guess I have to come with a menu card of what to make everyday.

I used to be that..and love that..but these days..no..!! Mornings, I take Boca Burgers and lunch might be whatever my wife made, or leftovers. Same with dinner.!!

I got recipes for Chenai (Yam) Kadi and Ginger Rasam today from my mom.! If you are interested I can send them to you tomorrow..!! so that you can surprise your hubby/kid.!!!

Better make out new dishes in small scale (!!) and try it out with your family... it is like inventions of those days, when failures ended up with fantastic inventions. Something may click with your hubby & daughter..

keep trying and make small quantities as Ram suggests. I tried the Rasamalai receipe u had given and it was an outright success at home. I do remember ur christmas cakes every year. They are absolutely fantastic...so keep trying new things... :)

Actually I am like that too (sticking mostly to S.Indian stuff) but since I have to do the cooking myself, I find more and more that it is a chore. So, I am planning to shift to some more "raw" stuff like salads and noodles at least for one meal. Of course, I do eat chapathis with some dal or channa at least twice a week :-)

aah.. veetukku veedu vaasapadi! I cd hear my wife break her head over what to cook for lunch/dinner. Worst part is she wd often pester me to suggest a menu thereby passing the buck, though I am happy to eat whatever she dishes out.. quite literally so! :P

My mother too faces the same problem. Sometimes she even calls us to find out what dishes to make.

She says its tough to decide the dish as she has no personal preference

Very true, I just go with you. Thinking of what to prepare takes away my time. Nowadays I give three options to my husband. It makes me in a way happy that I am cooking of what he likes.
