Listen Please!

People often forget to it listen, but want to be listened. It is an art to listen to people. Most of us forget to listen and are preoccupied with our own thoughts whether it is at a meeting, with friends, at home etc. It is an Art to listen, you need to have patience, concentration, above all have interest and also limit your talking. We all love to be listened but we often forget to listen to others and hurt them. Though people don’t say it out, listening is very important in our day to day life. Here it goes..
- You talk to your friend and they in turn don’t listen and start rattling off about themselves and it goes on blah , blah, blah
- You give instructions for certain work to done, and they don’t listen and end up asking you again
- You don’t listen in meetings, trainings, classes etc…
- You don’t listen to your children or your loved ones.
- You say something and the other person doesn’t listen and cuts you off..

Listen it sure makes a difference in someone’s life.

Very nice post AF. Very true, I've learnt it the hard way many times in my life so far. Even more now since I have my pre-teen daughter...who pauses and asks me questions.!!! So I better listen.!

Good sound advise for all of us Humans.!!

How true!. I used to jump the gun a lot in the past - but learnt to curb my enthu.. some people are too eager to derive conclusive/inferring statements every second sentence they hear. I hate when people complete sentences for you.

Nowadays, I have inculcated a habit of saying: "please let me finish.. " whenever someone does that.

Excellent post! What gets into the ears need to get into the head.!

There was this Active listening soft skill training which i attended years back. It is helping me a bit. Some tips,
1. Concentrate and hear
2. When it enters the head, just tag it with something u associate most. like what you do in school for remembering formulae. [i cud think of what my chemistry ma'm told in 6th std. for litmus test. BRA - Blue to Red means Acidic, which u can wake me anytime of any night and ask, i will tell correctly. :P]

correction: it's people rarely listen but want to be listened to. you missed the 'to'. sorry, don't mean to sound like some silly english teacher. just that i could resist it. it was there, staring at me, mocking me, asking to be corrected. that said, thanks for visiting. appreciate it. regards, uber.

Good Post AF. I always listen to people but the problem is my minds wanders and doesnt concentrate. I learnt that it defeats the purpose of learning. Still I am practising to concentrate while listening.
